Doodling My Own Lines

I was browsing online the other day and saw a fun technique that I had to try. The blog I was reading displayed a stenciled quote on one page of a journal. It was intentionally imperfect, and that impressed me. I loved how it looked hand drawn. I knew I could replicate the look by making stencils with the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies.

I went to the office supply store and found a grid paper notebook (my preferred sketch paper). I die cut the letters I wanted to use and laid them out on the back of my notebook to make sure everything fit. I used the back of the pad because I liked the raw texture of the cardboard. Besides, I’m being artsy, so who says I have to do things the conventional way?

When I started to trace, I didn’t worry too much about being exact because I just wanted to get the basic shape of the letters. I used a small paintbrush and some white acrylic paint to fill in my outlined letters, then made sure to erase my pencil lines once the paint was dry.

The real fun was using my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to start drawing on the painted letters.  I’ve only started to add my doodles to the front of my new book and I’m anxious to get working on what will be inside.
